The Heart of God – Gospel in Preparation for the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

This is God himself bringing life to the dead, revealing his passionate heart for his people. He is the fullness of all that was hinted at in every foreshadowing of the Old Testament. But as we see here, it is a fullness intimately concerned in the individual cares of his people. God has indeed visited his people in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the supreme revelation of the heart of God not only writ large in the stunning brushstrokes of salvation history, but also intimately inscribed in the heart of each one of his children, whom he dearly loves.

All About Grace – Second Reading in Preparation for the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

It is not just that in Christ they have received an example to emulate; it is that in Christ they have received God himself, pouring himself out to and for people so that they might be near him and have life in him. Having received this incomparable grace, they are called to become sources of it through their own self-giving in the world around them, in order that others, too, might have that life.

And in so doing, they not only give themselves to the world around them, but they give the One who is in them and acts through them.

There are those who say that belief in the resurrection is just “wish fulfillment”. They are wrong. Even before Christ it was not a “wish” but the highest wisdom of man based on all they had known of God over two thousand years: the one who had created them, loved them and sustained them throughout life would not abandon them to death. In Christ this wisdom became incarnate, that which man knew just had to be true was in fact proved true: The Lord Is risen and so shall we!
